  1. Det. says:

Is there any scientific explanation for a full moon insomnia?
I can’t sleep when there is a full moon, or i fall asleep very hard, at about 5 a.m. when’s already dawn. Is there any connection between the full moon and insomnia? Scientifically explained, i mean.

  2. Jaya says:

Do you believe a full moon can cause insomnia?
I have trouble sleeping every month for a few days and someone told me to check out the window when that happens and look to see what phase the moon is in, every time I have, its been a few days before, during or after a full moon. Coincidence? An astrologist asked me if I was a water sign, which I am. It affects the ocean so why not everything else?

    • HealthyBellies says:

Yes. It has something to do with the gravitational pull and the magnetic energy of the earth that causes it.

In ancient times, and still today in some cultures, women use the lunar cycles and the full moon to regulate their menstrual cycles, hence the idea of a 28 day cycle.

I don’t notice any lack of sleep over a full moon, but I do have two young kids at home too! lol
I do notice a change in my two cats behavior, though. I couldn’t pinpoint it at first as it would only happen once in a while until I noticed the rhythm. I looked at the calender and their squirrely behavior correlated to the full moon. Now I can tell when the full moon is about to approach! And now as my kids are getting older I can notice it in their behavior as well!

  3. CrAzy WaRriOr says:

Why if there’s a full moon in the night sky I have insomnia?

  4. Micheal B says:

Why do I and other people get Full Moon Insomnia?
i know ill get responses from people who also have it, but do you know why we get it? it has nothing to do with the light coming through your bedroom, because none comes in to mine, and nothing to do with me knowing its a full moon, cause i didnt (this time anyway) know that it was a full moon til i walked out in to the living room and saw it through the big window in the front of the house. why does it happen??!?
i dont hear any noises keeping me up, its not the light of the moon, and its not my body being sensitive to temperature. i dont get too hot or cold because of it.

    • Lawry C says:

Could be that you are sensitive to its effects upon the earth. The same effect that changes the tides: “A gravitational attraction between the earth and the sun and the earth and the moon.”

The change in temperature that occurs late at night may have something to do with it as well, from warm to cool causes the wood to creak and some are sensitive to that.

  5. Pyromaniac says:

    Insomnia and full moon.?
Usually, I have no trouble falling asleep. And I do not wake up at night, or have nightmares. I’m a very calm sleeper.

But sometimes I just can’t fall to sleep; I’m restless.

One day, at school I told someone what happened. He said that it could have been the full moon. I was very sceptical, but then I took my journal and looked up the dates that I didn’t sleep well.

All those nights were full moon or near full moon.

I found it curious, but didn’t pay too much attention to it.

The 28th of april, yesterday, I couldn’t sleep as well. I was wondering how it could come, and then I thought back at the full moon thing.

So I looked it up, and guess what: full moon.

    So, now, my question:

Is it true that people can get restless at full moon? And why is that? Any information would be appreciated :)

Note: it can’t be because of the light. The rooms in my windows have rolling shutters, which I completely close, so no light can’t get in.

    • B. says:

Many studies have been done on this and there is no physical difference with full moon or not. However, work and school pressures do most often fall about once a month. Businesses have their month end closings and reportings. Teachers have certain lessons that need to be taught by specific time frames and all of these added pressures often happen near month ends and full moon cycles. It is the outside pressures that are causing your mind to race and lose sleep. There are many relaxing techniques that you can try that will help, and also the Tylenol PM and generic equivalents work very well too.
